Studio Colorido & Netflix Announce Drifting Home, Watch the First Trailer

Japanese anime studio Studio Colorido has announced its latest anime film called Drifting Home.

Producer Koji Yamamoto, who produced A Whisker Away, announced the project during Netflix’s Tudum presentation. “The style of going from everyday life to a fantasy world, where you wear a cat mask and go to a cat world, we’d like to make it a signature project of Studio Colorido.” Yamamoto likened its style to previous films from the studio such as Penguin Highway and revealed Drifting Home will also have the same style of “jumping from everyday life to a fantasy world.”

“Kosuke and Natsume have been friends since childhood, but as time goes on the relationship between the two sixth graders seems strained as they keep avoiding one another,” reveals the official synopsis. “One day during their summer vacation, they go to a housing complex that is scheduled to be demolished. Having grown up there, the place holds a lot of memories, but while playing, they suddenly get caught up in a mysterious phenomenon and when they regain consciousness, they see an entire ocean before them as the housing complex has drifted into a mysterious sea and Kosuke and Natsume with it. Will they be able to return to their previous world? A summer farewell journey begins…”

Hiroyasu Ishida will direct from a screenplay by Ishida, Hayashi Mori, and Minaka Sakamoto. Helming character design is Akihiro Nagae, while Umitaro Abe will serve as the composer for Drifting Home.
