Oregairu is an amazing anime series and one of the best in the romance and slice-of-life genre. The characters are well-fleshed out, the animation is aesthetic, and a compelling plot drives the series. This series concluded after three seasons, and audiences were quite bittersweet about it.
Fortunately, there are certain anime series that fans might like after watching Oregairu. These anime series focus on romance, cute stories, teenage issues, and high school club activities. Here are five anime series that must be picked up after finishing Oregairu.
Hyouka
One of the series that strikes the mind first when slice-of-life is mentioned is Hyouka. It follows the story of a school group that wants to unveil all the mysteries within school grounds. The pacing of the show is very slow, and there are visible parallels to Oregairu.
The protagonist, Oreki, is similar to Hachiman. However, he is rather lazy and believes in doing things in an efficient way to save his energy. Hachiman used to stay away from people to avoid getting involved in unnecessary drama. Even the female leads, Chitanda and Yukino, are pretty similar despite having contrasting personalities. This series is a must-watch for slice-of-life aficionados.
The Rascal Doesn’t Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
The Rascal Doesn’t Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai released in the Fall of 2018. Despite being a relatively new release, it was loved by the community. The story revolves around a strange disease called Puberty Syndrome. The symptoms are absurd and supernatural, and they mainly depend on the situation that the teenager is going through.
One such example is the main character, Mai Sakurajima. She becomes invisible to others after halting her promising career as an actress. It is different from Oregairu but still holds similarities. Taking on teenage issues, coming to terms with your past, depression, and more themes are laced intricately with the slow-burn romance.
ReLife
ReLIFE follows the story of Arata Kaizaki. He is an unemployed 27-year-old man who is bestowed with a second chance to live his life. As part of the ReLIFE experiment, he relives his high school life for a year. The majority of the series delves into Arata’s adult perspective on these teenage issues, which is a fresh breath of air.
The protagonist is somewhat similar to Hachiman from Oregairu. Arata is reserved and provides the audience with a more outsider viewpoint on high school drama. The romance theme in the series is flexible and feels natural. Arata’s love interest, Chizuru Hishiro, is also adorable without feeling forced.
Blue Spring Ride
Blue Spring Ride follows the story of Futaba Yoshioka, who meets her middle school crush, Tanaka Kou, after entering high school.
However, the boy has become rather indifferent. She remembers that he isn’t the Kou as their personalities differ drastically. The romantic theme of this series is more intense than Oregairu. However, Blue Spring Ride still handles the drama and comedy of high school life well.
The interactions between Futaba and Kou are similar to the banter between Hachiman and Yukino. The love triangle aspect and beautiful anime visuals further enhance the series.
Love, Chunibyou, & Other Delusions
Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions is another rom-com. The story revolves around Yuta Togashi, a former “Chunibyo” patient. He used to delve into his delusional fantasies. One day, he stumbles upon Rikka Takanashi, a girl who is still Chunibyou.
They become friends and start spending time together. The protagonist helps Rikka live her high school social life carefully and appreciates her stellar imagination.
All these series are available to stream on Crunchyroll with English subtitles and English dub.
