Amazon’s The Romanoffs tells the stories of people who believe they are descendants of the Romanovs. Each episode tells a new story in a different part of the world. The Romanoffs season 1 episode 3 followed actress Olivia Rogers as she took on the role of Alexandria in a mini-series about the Romanovs shortly after her mother died.
Defiant
When Olivia arrived in Austria to replace Rebecca as Alexandria, the driver took her straight to the set to meet Jacqueline, the director. Jacqueline was a former French actress past her prime. She got the director’s job because she was a descendant of the Romanovs. Olivia told Jacqueline how much she had respected and admired her, but Jacqueline was frank with Olivia about aging as an actress. Jacqueline reminded Olivia that she had to put effort into acting because she couldn’t sleep with the director this time.
The Method
Samuel was the actor playing Rasputin. He and Olivia flirted with each other, but after a scene that left Jacqueline unsatisfied, Olivia asked him to run lines with her. She soon discovered how much Jack was immersed in Rasputin as a method actor. He had decorated his hotel room to reflect the character, as Olivia found out when they spent the night together.
While filming a scene, Samuel had escalated the scene to be rough with her, and Olivia stormed off the set. He apologized, citing that he was too much in Rasputin’s head. They reconciled and headed to a dinner with the investors together. That night, Olivia watched out her window as Samuel drunkenly talked to himself and then was carted away in a van. The next day, she was told that Samuel had wrapped.
Total Mindf***
Mystery surrounded the production of this mini-series. Olivia received a call to meet Jacqueline at the bar in the hotel, but she was told there was no bar at the front desk. Days later, she found a bar where the person at reception was the bartender. Electricity would go out repeatedly, and Jacqueline seemed to be talking to a ghost at times. While Olivia was in bed, a little girl walked into her room, climbed into the wardrobe, and never came out.
During the dinner with the investors, Steve and Katrina, the lights went out, and Jacqueline appeared to be possessed by the Dowager Empress. She demanded in Russian that they save her family, or she would curse Katrina, the only one in the room who understood her. Katrina collapsed and almost died of fright.
Clearly Off Her Rocker
After Jacqueline seemed to lose it and changed the ending to the Romanovs being rescued, Olivia finally quit and stormed off the set. Production was shutting down when she went to the trailers, and she wandered in the woods before discovering her agent Bob was there. Bob was going to try to get her out of there and would construct a narrative that Jacqueline couldn’t take the pressure.
Olivia packed her bag and took a nap in her hotel room. She had taken one of the pills left in her room after Rebecca overdosed. She woke up to forceful knocking. The crew members dressed as Russian soldiers took her in the back of a truck and brought her to a bunker with the rest of the cast in costume. The soldiers shot the cast, reenacting the Romanov murders. Jacqueline called cut, and she and Bob came out of nowhere, praising the cast for their performance. Unfortunately, Olivia had died of fright.
