The second season of HBO’s Insecure ended with Issa moving out of her apartment and going to stay with Daniel. The third season season premiere picks up two weeks later with Issa still at Daniel’s apartment.
Boss Molly
Molly came back from vacation with a renewed will to better her life. She was still sleeping with Dro, but she insisted on boundaries. They could only be acquaintances who slept together without the more couple-y things like making pancakes in the morning. When she asked Dro for his key to her apartment, the arrangement imploded, and Dro left angry.
Heads Up
Issa was still staying on Daniel’s couch. He seemed to have no qualms over bringing women over to have sex with her in the next room. Issa asked him to give her a heads up next time so she could avoid the apartment when he had a woman over. When he asked Issa why she chose to stay with him, she at first said it was because he lived close to her job.
Later, Issa admitted she knew Daniel would be there for her. The next time Daniel had a date, he spent it out of the apartment, giving Issa the place to herself. She left the apartment anyway.
Party Lyft
In an effort to save up money, and for something to do while Daniel was in the apartment with a date, Issa started driving with Lyft. She called up Molly to ride with her while she drove. She even made it a “Party Lyft” by giving out Capri Sun.
The first ride she picked up went well, as the ladies got along with Issa and Molly (5 stars, good music, reminded them of their aunty). Molly insisted on picking up good-looking men, and they got one. He bashed LA (not allowed in Issa’s car), and Molly hijacked his phone to find him a better place to eat than Saddle Ranch. On the way, they picked up another guy, who started smoking weed and fighting the LA basher in Issa’s backseat.
No-anne
Issa had been taken out of fieldwork at We Got Y’all. Frieda had gotten promoted and was spying on her at Joanne’s request. Issa was tasked with calling the schools that We Got Y’all partners with to do their periodical check-ins. But when Issa got some negative feedback, she took initiative to call the schools no longer partnered with the organization to find out why. Most cited that the logo was racist, and the organization’s staff was mostly white and negative. She took the feedback to Joanne, who blew up at Issa for overstepping when she was out of the field. The negative feedback was outright dismissed. Things weren’t looking good for We Got Y’all.
