There’s been some creative turmoil behind-the-scenes of TNT’s Snowpiercer series, but the show appears to be once again moving forward with its latest casting addition. According to Deadline, former Salem co-star Iddo Goldberg has joined Snowpiercer as a series regular. The show is an adaptation of Jacques Lob’s graphic novel Le Transperceneige and the 2013 Snowpiercer movie directed by Bong Joon-ho. It takes place in a world that has been transformed into a frozen wasteland, with the mankind’s last survivors gathered on a train that travels non-stop around the globe.
Within the series, Goldberg will portray Bennett, one of the engineers who designed the train and also holds some of the hidden secrets of the train as well. Goldberg has previously appeared in Peaky Blinders and Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Daveed Diggs, Jennifer Connelly, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, and Annalise Basso also star in the Snowpiercer series.
Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson was hired to direct the pilot episode of Snowpiercer. However, Derrickson refused to return for TNT’s mandated reshoots for Snowpiercer over a creative disagreement. On twitter, Derrickson wrote “The 72-page Snowpiercer TV pilot script by [Josh Friedman] is the best I’ve ever read. The feature-length pilot I made from that script may be my best work. The new showrunner has a radically different vision for the show. I am forgoing my option to direct the extreme reshoots.” Friedman also left Snowpiercer in January over creative differences. In his place, TNT named Orphan Black co-creator, Graeme Mason, as the new showrunner.
TNT hasn’t yet revealed a timetable for Snowpiercer‘s premiere, but it may arrive in 2019 or 2020.
