Director Tate Taylor is in talks to helm an upcoming biopic based on the life of “The Godfather of Soul,” James Brown. Deadline brings word that the project, which is currently without a title, will be produced by Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger.
Jez and John-Henry Butterworth are providing the screenplay for the film which begins with Brown’s impoverished childhood in South Carolina and follows through his rise to international stardom.
Taylor made his feature film debut with 2008’s Pretty Ugly People and received critical acclaim for his sophomore feature, 2011’s The Help.
A search is now underway for an actor to play the iconic musician.
