The DCEU films have had their fair share of cameos already from the minor appearances of the Justice League members in Batman v Superman and both The Flash and Batman stopping by for Suicide Squad, and now the star of Shazam, Zachary Levi, wants one in his film. Speaking with ET, he was asked if he could get another hero to cameo in Shazam, who would he want? His answer was an easy one: “Wonder Woman, because she’s awesome.”
Levi continued: “I think getting a cameo from anybody would be super cool, but I just think Gal Gadot is so effervescent. She has such a charm. And she seems like a really cool broad. Like, she was in the Israeli army. She’s a mom. And I’m like, ‘You seem like you’re grounded and cool, and you’re Wonder Woman, and you rock,’ and I think it would be really funny to have the 14-year-old Billy Batson inside of Shazam that’s really awkward around this beautiful Amazonian. I just think that would be really awesome.”
The former Marvel Studios hero will play the titular Shazam in the movie with Asher Angel set to star as his young alter ego, Billy Batson. Mark Strong (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Sherlock Holmes) is also set to star and will appear as the villain, Doctor Sivana. Other cast members include Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen and Jovan Armand as Billy’s friends that live in a group home with him.
David F. Sandberg is directing for New Line Cinema. He recently confirmed that the target release date for the film is April 2019. The Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director will step behind the camera with Peter Safran producing. Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke wrote the script for Shazam!, which will shoot in Vancouver.
Dwayne Johnson will not appear as the villain Black Adam in the film and is developing a solo film for the anti-hero as a separate project.
Created in 1939 by artist C. C. Beck and writer Bill Parker, Shazam first appeared in Fawcett Comics’ Whiz Comics #2. By saying the world “Shazam,” teenager Billy Batson was transformed into the “world’s mightiest mortal” and given extraordinary abilities by ancient gods.
