Deadline is reporting that acclaimed Welsh action director Gareth Evans (The Raid, The Raid 2, Merantau) is developing the drama series Gangs of London for Cinemax and Sky Atlantic for a launch in 2019.
According to the trade, Gangs of London is “set in contemporary London as it is becoming torn apart by power struggles involving a number of international gangs. The series begins as the head of one criminal gang is assassinated and the power vacuum threatens the fragile peace between the other underworld organisations.”
Evans developed his idea for the series for Pulse Films, with Thomas Benski and Lucas Ochoa executive producing alongside Sister Pictures’ Jane Featherstone. Evans will direct the project, and will also write the scripts with Peter Berry, Clare Wilson and Joe Murtagh and Matt Flannery.
“It has been a thrilling experience to leap into longform storytelling, exploring a multicultural world of global crime as it intersects on the streets of London,” Evans said.
Evans’ next directorial project is the Netflix period thriller film Apostle, starring Dan Stevens. He is also in early talks to write and direct a Deathstroke solo film for DC and Warner Bros., presumably starring Joe Manganiello who played the character in this past weekend’s Justice League.
