First announced last month, Ridley Scott’s upcoming The Counselor has locked its star. Deadline reports that Michael Fassbender will take the leading role in the Cormac McCarthy penned-screenplay.
McCarthy, known for the novels-turned-films All the Pretty Horses, No Country for Old Men and The Road, wrote The Counselor specifically for the screen. It tells of a present-day Southwest lawyer who gets in over his head in the drug trade.
The article notes that Scott is currently looking for an equally high-profile talent to play the film’s villain and is eyeing a shoot to begin this May.
Fassbender is coming off a busy 2011 and already appeared in this year’s Haywire. He can soon be seen on the big screen again in Scott’s Prometheus and is expected to re-team with his Hunger and Shame director, Steve McQueen, for 12 Years a Slave. He’s also expected to reprise his role as Magneto in an upcoming sequel to last year’s X-Men: First Class.
