Armando Iannucci, best known for creating the acclaimed political satire series The Thick of It and Veep, next has plans to adapt for the big screen the upcoming Titan Comics graphic tale The Death of Stalin. Based on the true story of the events surrounding Joseph Stalin’s death more than half a century ago, The Death of Stalin was written by Fabien Nury with art by Thierry Robin. Set for publication later this month, The Death of Stalin is officially described as follows:

Fear, corruption and treachery abound in this political satire set in the aftermath of Stalin’s death in the Soviet Union in 1953.

When the leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, has a stroke – the political gears begin to turn, plunging the super-state into darkness, uncertainty and near civil war. The struggle for supreme power will determine the fate of the nation and of the world. And it all really happened.

Available this week in comic book shops, The Death of Stalin will be released through Amazon on July 25. The feature film version, meanwhile, is set to star Steve Buscemi (Fargo), Simon Russell Beale (Into the Woods), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter series), Michael Palin (Monty Python’s Flying Circus), and Jeffrey Tambor (Arrest Development).
