Eddie Redmayne is the latest name to join Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway in director Tom Hooper’s Broadway adaptation, Les Miserables. Deadline reports that he will play the part of Marius.
In turn based on Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel, the hit Broadway musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg opened in 1985, beginning one of the longest runs for a musical ever. Set against the backdrop of the 19th Century French rebellion, the musical has been adapted for the screen by William Nicholson.
Hooper is going to be following up his Oscar win for The King’s Speech with the adaptation, set up at Working Title and Universal Pictures. Redmayne, meanwhile, appears in the soon-to-be-released My Week with Marilyn, opening on November 23rd.
Les Miserables is scheduled to hit theaters on December 7, 2012.
