The Blues Brothers are planning to make a return to the small screen. Variety reports that Dan Aykroyd and Judy Belushi (the widow of the late John Belushi) are pitching a television series based on the comedy duo.
Originally a musical sketch comedy act on “Saturday Night Live” in the late 1970’s, Aykroyd and Belushi took to the big screen in the 1980 John Landis feature which had their characters, Jake and Elwood Blues, on a “mission from God” to save their childhood orphanage.
Landis and Aykroyd returned to the characters in 1998 for Blues Brothers 2000, but that film failed to meet with critical or box office success.
The pilot script is said to recast Jake and Elwood with Aykroyd providing the voice of the brothers’ parole officer, following the pair on a quest to find their real father.
