Universal Pictures has plans to remake the independent feature Phasma ex Machina, Deadline reports. They’ve brought aboard Nathan Parker to draft the script and Gary Shore to direct the film.
A supernatural thriller, the original film (retitled from and literally translating to “Ghost From the Machine”) was directed by Matt Osterman and told the story of a man who, after the death of his parents, builds a machine to attempt communication with the spirit world.
Shore, best known as a commercials director, is already working with both Universal and Parker on The Cup of Tears, a feature based on his own short film. The original article notes that, in addition to these two features, Shore is also potentially in line for a big screen adaptation of the James Patterson novel Maximum Ride. Of the three projects, Machina is likely to arrive first.
