We’re kicking the week off with a special clip tied to the release of Long Way North. The French-Belgian film was released last year and is directed by The Secret of Kells storyboard artist Rémi Chayé. You can explore the design of Long Way North in the player at the bottom of this page and catch the film on a new Blu-ray from Shout! Factory.
January 17 also sees Emily Blunt in The Girl on the Train, Keanu Reeves and Renée Zellweger in The Whole Truth, Aaron Paul in Come and Find Me, and Zach Galifianakis, Isla Fisher, Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot in the action-comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses. Also fresh from the big screen is the signifcantly-better-than-the-original horror sequel Ouija: Origin of Evil and the excellent zombie thriller Train to Busan.
Roger Corman’s original cult classic gets a direct-to-home sequel with Death Race 2050. Hitting DVD only, meanwhile, is the all-ages animated follow-up Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania and the animated tie-in LEGO Jurassic World: Indominus Escape. Michael Mann’s Ali gets an updated Blu-ray this week, while Warner Archive delivers a Blu-ray edition of John Sturges classic Bad Day at Black Rock.
The Criterion Collection has two very different additions this week with both Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 1975 Fox and HIs Friends and Jack Garfein’s 1961 look at sexual assault, Something Wild. The film marks the second Something Wild in the collection, following the induction Jonathan Demmes’ 1986 comic thriller a few years back.
Shout Factory’s Scream Factory label has a treat for cult horror fanatics with a double-feature Blu-ray of Slumber Party Massacre II & III. That follows the label’s previous collector’s edition release of the first in the slasher franchise.
Small-screen releases for January 17 include the second season of Syfy‘s 12 Monkeys, the comedy series The IT Crowd: The Internet is Coming and the final seasons of both NYPD Blue and Rizzoli & Isles.
Digital HD titles arriving January 17 include the action thriller sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and the ensemble crime comedy Masterminds.
