Highlander Reboot Lands John Wick Director Chad Stahelski

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment has set 87Eleven stunt coordinator-turned-director Chad Stahelski (John Wick and the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 2) to helm their long-gestating Highlander reboot. Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis will produce the film, with a search for new screenwriters currently ongoing.

“I’ve been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school,” Stahelski said. “Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can’t think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces.”

In development since 2008, the last update came in 2014 when it was announced that director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) was going to reboot the Highlander franchise with Tom Cruise potentially playing a role similar to Sean Connery’s immortal Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez.

The original Highlander also stars Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman who, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, is forced to confront one final foe: a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the prize that comes with being the last immortal.
