Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger Showrunner Revealed, Series Delayed

The Hollywood Reporter brings word on development for Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, the new TV series announced for the channel Freeform (formerly ABC Family), revealing that writer Marvel’s Daredevil writer Joe Pokaski has been tapped as the series showrunner. With the good news must also come bad, as the outlet also reports the series has been delayed and will now debut in Winter 2018. Forgoing traditional television development, Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger was ordered straight to series back in April.

The series will focus on Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, the eponymous Cloak and Dagger, as they learn to use their newly-acquired super powers while also falling in love with each other. Cloak is capable of teleportation through the “dimension of darkness” but can also leave foes stranded in the other world as well. Dagger has the ability to create light daggers with her mind, which she can control as well. Her daggers are capable of both draining life from their targets, or healing them.

Created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan in the pages of Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Cloak and Dagger have fought alongside the X-Men, the Runaways, Doctor Strange and even Captain America’s Secret Avengers during the first Civil War event.

This isn’t the first time that Cloak and Dagger have attempted to make the jump to live action as an adaptation for ABC Family was previously in development as early as 2010, which would have seen the pair based out of New Orleans. In addition, Marvel’s initial announcement of their formation of Marvel Studios pegged the duo as having potential for a feature film.
