Shock rock legends re-unite for classic cover tune and video.
It’s been years of fussin’ and fightin’ between former shock rock pioneers Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley, co-founders of the legendary fire, blood and theatrics band KISS.
Frehley, whose “Spaceman” character was the galactic, axe-wielding secret sauce to many of the bands early shows and recordings, fell out of the band in 1981, after substance abuse and general displeasure with the direction the band was heading in. He regrouped for the make-up reunion tour in the 1990’s, only to fall-out again, replaced by now mainstay guitarist Tommy Thayer who adopted a version of Ace’s legendary Spaceman character.
But Ace, now many years sober, has been releasing plenty of solo material over the years, to much acclaim.
Now, the impossible has seemingly happened. As we noted in our review for his latest album, Origins: Vol. 1, a blistering selection of hard-edged classic rock tunes re-interpreted by Ace with an array of guest stars, Paul and Ace have buried the hatchet (not in each others backs this time) to collaborate on a deft cover of Free’s “Fire and Water”.
It’s a great track and today, the duo released the official video for the song. Have a look. If you’re a KISS fan, you may very well weep…
Origins: Vol. 1 cracked the U.S. top 10, charting at #1 on the Billboard Hard Music Chart, #3 on the Billboard Rock chart and #6 on the Billboard Current Chart selling more than 16k units in its first week of release according to Nielsen Soundscan. Internationally, the LP most notably came in at #2 on the Sweden Hard Rock Charts and #05 on the England Indie Album Breaker Charts.
