Following a public announcement of his non-involvement and massive fan and cast outcry, it seems David Lynch and Showtime have finally come to terms on the highly anticipated season three of Twin Peaks.
Now to be longer than the initially announced nine hours, and with David Lynch in fact directing all, Twin Peaks is expected to hit Showtime in 2016. “This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark [Frost] and David tastes more delicious than ever, said Showtime’s David Nevins in a statement. Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!!”
This surely a relief to both fans of the series and Lynch (the best part of all of this was always simply having new Lynch material), as well as cast and crew; most especially Sherilyn Fenn, who became the biggest voice of online support for the filmmaker.
Both Lynch and Twin Peaks co-creator Frost tweeted out the news, with Fenn and series’ lead, Kyle MacLachlan, echoing excitement. Fenn’s Twitter is a particularly warm destination right now, filled with photos from Peaks‘ original airing.
