Christian Bale and his The Machinist director, Brad Anderson, have tentative plans to re-team for an adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s novel Concrete Island. ComingSoon.net’s sister site, ShockTillYouDrop.com has the scoop, straight from Anderson himself.
“The best way to describe it is it’s like an urban Robinson Crusoe story,” Anderson says, “A guy crashes a car into a highway interchange and is marooned in this weedy lot, injured, and can’t escape and he’s basically trying to survive in the middle of the big urban Metropolis. It’s sort of a crazy, cool Ballard-esque type story, but Christian’s on board to do that when we can fit it into his schedule, of course.”
The novel, released in 1974 is, like many Ballard works, famous for it’s surreal approach to the narrative, described by The Washington Post Book World as “the literary equivalent of Salvador Dalí or Max Ernst.”
Bale’s next project, of course, is the third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises and will also appear in another literary adaptation, Nanjing Heroes.
