Fantastic Fest ’11: Rick Baker Prepping Retrospective Book

Title revealed, what can you expect inside?

In Austin, Texas for a revival screening of An American Werewolf in London at Fantastic Fest, FX legend Rick Baker sat down with Shock Till You Drop for a catch-up session. What we came to find out is that he’s at work on a career retrospective tome called “I Was a Teenage Monster Maker.”

“It’s something I put the brakes on a bit ago and now we’re going back and trying to get it out for next summer,” he told us. “I’ve got boxes and boxes of photos, mostly proof sheets. We scanned all of the negatives and I’ve been looking through them all, pulling the coolest ones.”

“These photos are incredible, people are going to flip out. I’m a bit of hoarder, I’m going back to stuff I’ve had since I was 10. Drawings from before then. I found of stuff in my attic of all of the B-monsters I drew when I was a kid. Notebooks that were interesting, because I’m a bit dyslexic and I’m a horrible speller. I want to put it in there to show you can be successful but be a horrible speller,” he laughed.

“It’s more about pictures than words,” he added. “I was interviewed all day, every day for six weeks. But we’re going to cut down and focus on the photos.” What can folks expect? “There’s a bunch of stuff from An American Werewolf in London, like make-up tests and shots that look better than anything in the movie. It’s funny how tests sometime look better than what’s in the finished film.”

We’ll have more on the book soon, and check back later for our full chat with Baker!
