Project update for the man behind Hostel
Where has Eli Roth – who last directed a feature with 2007’s Hostel II – since starring in Inglourious Basterds? Besides workin’ his Twitter account and becoming a TMZ darling, he’s been writing a lot, apparently. Roth attended the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival recently and Screen Daily was there to get the latest on the Cabin Fever helmer’s string of upcoming projects. Fans should expect the following to come to fruition sometime in the future…
⢠Roth is still gunning to direct Endangered Species, an apocalyptic sci-fi thriller. He’s been nurturing this one for a while now.
⢠On the producing and co-writing tip, there’s Aftershock, about a Chilean earthquake. It’s going to be directed by Nicolas Lopez. Roth says, “It is basically set in the aftermath of the Chilean earthquake. That (the idea) came from him (Lopez) describing to me what the hours were like immediately following the earthquake. Everybody is on Facebook, everybody is on Twitter, everything is hi-tech. Then, within seconds, itâs like the Stone Age. Thereâs no electricity, no phones. There are fires. Criminals are out of the prisons and there are no police. You donât know what the hell is going on.”
⢠The fall of 2012 will see the release of RZA’s The Man With the Iron Fist, written and produced by Roth. Russell Crowe stars in this kung-fu flick to be released by Universal.
⢠Then, there is Clown, written by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford for Roth to produce. The film is about a man who dresses up like a clown for a party and finds he can’t get the costume off when he’s finished. Watts will direct.
There you have it. More or less, it’s “more of the same” that we’ve been hearing about since Roth hit the promotion scene last summer for The Last Exorcism.
