Release Plans for Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In

The upcoming revenge thriller

ComingSoon.net has learned two of Sony Pictures Classics’ high-profile festival movies and potential awards bait have begun to flesh out their release plans for this year’s fall movie season.

Mere hours after its UK release date was announced for August 26, we’ve learned Pedro Almodovar’s horror-thriller The Skin I Live In, reuniting the filmmaker with Antonio Banderas, will be released in the United States in November.

That would be perfect timing for awards season and the Oscars, territory on which Almodovar has trod upon quite often in the past, most notably winning the Oscar for his screenplay for Talk to Her.

Synopsis: Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonia Banderas), an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples were never a problem. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig… Loosely based on Thierry Jonquet’s 1995 novel “Mygale.”
