Plot details and set “rule” revealed
Confession time: When it was announced Tobe Hooper was going to direct Djinn in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), I didn’t think it was going to happen. Hooper’s had a track record of projects languishing in development hell.
But damn, this one is actually happening and proof of that comes via The National, a news outlet owned by Abu Dhabi Media, one of the producers on the film. Two set photos surfaced at the site, one of which you can see below.
According to The National: “The film is set in 2015 and follows the story of Khaled and Salama, a couple who return home from America to discover their apartment in a luxury high-rise, built on the site of the deserted fishing village, is also home to malevolent beings.”
So, it’s an Arabian Paranormal Activity?
It adds: “There is a strict rule: no one can mention the word djinn while on set. The measure has been taken out of respect and because it is thought that speaking their name could conjure one up.”
