The Vertigo comic book finally comes to the screen?
D.J. Caruso, the man who gave us Disturbia and I Am Number Four, confirmed via his Twitter account:
“My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side and pretty f**king pumped!”
Caruso was rumored last week to be circling the long-mooted adaptation of the Vertigo-published comic book. He’ll be directing for Neil Moritz.
The comic book, which first smacked unsuspecting readers in the face in ’95, concerned a preacher who was possessed with the powers of Genesis, the spawn of an angel and a demon. The series saw him set out on a journey – with his girlfriend and a hard-drinking vampire – to find God. Tons of other crazy shit – and I mean crazy – happens.
Is Caruso right for the job? He wouldn’t be my top pick. Sam Mendes was in line to direct from a script by John August, but that whole collaboration dissolved with Mendes moved on.
