A bit of Halloween and Black Christmas
Rosewood Lane, the latest film from Victor Salva (Jeepers Creepers), has built some steam this week when it was announced the script was being dusted off for production and that casting was underway. This was followed by the word that Rose McGowan was locked to star.
Naturally, some rumors got thrown into the mix and Salva dropped Shock a line with an update on what’s truth and what’s fiction.
“The response to just the announcement about Rosewood Lane has been incredible,” he says. “There are already erroneous rumors on line about our start date and where we’ll be filming. None of those particulars have been decided and we wouldn’t be announcing them anyway, when they are.”
He adds: “I will say this: there are a lot of surprises in store for Jeepers fans, genre fans, Rose McGowan fans and just anyone who enjoys a very smart and truly chilling ‘jump-out-of-your seat’ scare fest. But we want everything about Rosewood Lane to remain a mystery until the film is ready to flicker onto movies screens. The true stuff about Rosewood that I have seen online, is the most exciting stuff: That we have the wonderful and beautiful Rose McGowan and a script I have been wanting and waiting to make for a very long time. There is something to be said about the unique kind of horror and suspense that is created with a well told suburban nightmare, which is how I would describe Rosewood Lane.”
“Suburban nightmares are powerful because they are stories that as you watch them, you realize they could easily happen on your own street in your own town. That really gives thrillers like this the ability to get under your skin. And one of the great pleasures for me in finally putting this chiller in front of the cameras, is that Rosewood Lane harkens back to some of my favorite and classic thrillers like Carpenter’s Halloween and Bob Clark’s Black Christmas.”
In case you missed the synopsis, the film concerns a radio talk show therapist who moves back to her childhood home when her alcoholic father dies. But upon arrival, she discovers the neighborhood is terrified of the local paperboy.
She thinks this is ridiculous, until she encounters the boy himself, and learns the hard way, that he is a cunning and dangerous sociopath, who may have killed her father and even others. When he starts to exhibit abnormal abilities, she starts to doubt her own sanity and the boy begins waging a war of terror on her.
