But is this the way to do it?
Hmm, someone has read our 6 Horror Games We Want to See on the Big Screen breakdown.
This sounds like it’s a bit too early to report on – as the rights for the property are not even fully secured and the financing hasn’t been locked in place – but filmmaker John Darko is trying to get an adaptation of the video game Zombies Ate My Neighbors! off of the ground.
The title was made popular on the Sega Genesis and Super NES systems. The thrust of the game is you run around killing, at first, zombies in suburbia until you move on, level to level, acquiring sundry weapons and taking on familiar horror monsters.
First Showing broke the news about Darko’s project, which is being co-produced by April Wade and Ahmed al Baker. The site says they’re borrowing “a bit” from the video game but Darko hopes to craft his own “coming of age” zom-com.
Is this the way to do it? The indie way with elements of the game? Yikes. You can’t downplay the scope of the game.
Go big or go home, is what I say.
