Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi are in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale in Universal Pictures’ Contraband, reports Variety.
The Working Title film, a remake of Icelandic thriller Reykjavik-Rotterdam, co-written, is being directed by Baltasar Kormakur, who also co-wrote, produced and starred in the original.
The plot centers on a security guard and former alcohol smuggler (Wahlberg) on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after encountering financial problems.
Foster will play Wahlberg’s brother-in-law while details on the character Ribisi would play were not disclosed.
Filming for the March 16, 2012 release is scheduled to start in January. Tim Bevan wrote the script.
