Another big screen take on the Disney attraction
Breaking news out of Comic-Con.
Guillermo Del Toro has just taken to the stage to announce he is going to reboot The Haunted Mansion for Disney. Del Toro will only produce and co-write the adaptation.
“We are not returning Eddie Murphy’s calls…and we are notmaking it a comedy,” Del Toro told the audience after showing a teaser. “We are making it scary and fun, but the scary will be scary.”
The story is said to revolve around the “Hatbox Ghost” (pictured below) who will also be re-introduced into the original ride.
“Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters – think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” says del Toro in an official press release statement. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains – for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!”
A big budget adaptation of the popular Disney ride was made with Eddie Murphy in 2003. Needless to say, it disappointed the die-hard fans.
