Los Angeles: A Word About Dark Delicacies

The premiere horror shop is moving!

“We have to go.”

Words I never like to hear when I step into my favorite horror shop in Los Angeles. Hearing this about three weeks ago, uttered by Dark Delicacies co-proprietor Sue Howison, sent chills down my spine.

When I first moved out here, Dark Delicacies, located in Burbank, was situated on Magnolia Blvd. I attended a book signing for Victoria Price, Vincent Price’s daughter. Owners, and instant friends, Del and Sue at that time were poised to move, so I didn’t get to know the Magnolia spot all too well. Its current location, on Burbank Blvd., has become a second home to me, however.

To get to the point, yes, Dark Delicacies is moving after ten years and Del dropped me the following line to spread to others who frequent the shop:

That’s right. For those of you who haven’t heard, sometime in the next couple of months we will be moving to a new location. It should be larger and also offer some real changes. We’re doing okay but the landlord is selling the building out from under us. We’ve been here 10 years and sometimes being forced to get off of your butt is a good thing.

We don’t know when yet and we haven’t secured a new location , but I can tell you that we want to stay in Burbank and keep the phone number. So that means we don’t intend on moving far. Some very exciting things are pending so whenever the fat lady sings about something I will post it here

One thing I know is that near the end of the month or so we are going to have an auction of some very cool autographed stuff to help us raise money for the move (which will be costly no matter what). I have auction material that ranges from autographs of John Agar and Dee Dee Ramone to a night of a one-on-one dinner with Steve Niles so get ready to spend for a good cause and we promise to make our third location even better than the last two were!
