How different is it from theatrical version?
Back in August when Rob Zombie was doing press for Halloween 2, the writer/director admitted to having an alternate cut of his sequel that would inevitably end up being the DVD “director’s cut”.
The filmmaker just announced via his Twitter account that the “director’s cut is finally done” and that it’s “very different than the theatrical version.”
How different is different? Below are some quotes he gave me for the piece I originally wrote for Icons Of Fright about the changes from his initial cut to the theatrical version.
“There is another version of the movie thatâs very, very different that will probably be the directorâs cut. There were 2 ways we could cut the movie,” he explains. “The way we cut it for the theatrical, Laurie Strodeâs character is the main difference in the two. (In the theatrical) Sheâs holding it together, getting her life together and it starts spiraling downward. In the other version, sheâs an incredible mess and gets worse. She never has any good moments, sheâs just messed up, sheâs lashing out at everyone, sheâs horrible. Messed up on drugs, sheâs just completely spun out through the whole movie. It makes for a real challenging movie to watch and I feel like I donât know if fans wouldâve embraced so much darkness.”
“Everythingâs the same in that version except for her. Thereâs other scenes with her, and mostly with Annie. Her relationship with Annie is horrible and theyâre at each otherâs throats through the whole movie. They are not in the theatrical version.”
No release date has been set yet for the DVD, but we’ll let you know as soon as it’s officially announced.
Halloween II stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Tyler Mane, Malcolm McDowell, Danielle Harris, Brea Grant, Daniel Roebuck and Jeffrey Daniel Phillips.
