Over the weekend, B-D reported an An American Werewolf in London redo was in the works. Not at Universal…but at Dimension Films.
We’ve been flooded with reports that the genre house of the Weinstein brothers has been ailing financially; that acquiring anything was out of their grasp until they had found some time to get back on their feet.
Landis himself confirms to B-D Dimension is “in negotiations” to pick up the remake rights. “Perhaps someone will make a brilliant movie out of it,” he tells the site, no doubt with a fair share of “Landis sarcasm.” Whether any of this will come to pass is unknown.
American Werewolf fans can grit their teeth in the meantime and take heart in knowing that Universal is preparing a Blu-Ray edition of Landis’ original film due sometime this summer or fall.
