Local extras are being sought
Lake Havasu in Arizona is going to get a name change for Alex Aja’s $40 million 3-D remake of Joe Dante’s Piranha. According to the Mohave Daily News, Havasu will be called Lake Victoria in the film and over a thousand extras are being called for.
Says MDN, “While extras from California and Nevada are welcome, there’s an emphasis to hire Arizona actors – or actors-in-waiting – to fill the roles. The production company is eligible for tax credits if at least 70 percent of the actors are Arizona residents.” The production is looking for nearly 1,500 extras.
Going off pre-production notes, the paper also states Aja’s take will be a bit more serious than Dante’s incarnation which had a tongue-in-cheek nature about it.
If you live in Arizona and want to partake in the film, this article has all of the details on how to be an extra.
Shooting begins on May 11th with stars Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott and Ving Rhames.
