Criterion handling Cronos

Superb news for fans of Guillermo del Toro’s early works Cronos and Mimic.
We’ll start with the latter first. Dimension Films has announced it is releasing a 12th Anniversary Special Edition of Del Toro’s creature feature starring Mira Sorvino. And it will indeed be the director’s cut Del Toro has longed to get out into the public. Special features will include a commentary, making-of featurette and more. Look for more details as we near the DVD’s July 8th street date.
Back in November (here), Del Toro hinted a new edition of Cronos was on the way. It appears Criterion is working on one for this fall. Evidence came via a drawing of the mechanism featured in the film (see it here). That could be a sneak peek at the packaging as well!
