Kim Manners Has Passed Away

Key player in genre television

Various sources are reporting director Kim Manners has passed away Sunday evening after a battle with cancer.

His is not a name you might instantly recognize, however, fans of The X-Files or, hell, even The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. surely remember his work. Manners, who has been in television since 1974 after working on the feature Valdez is Coming, was nominated on four occasions for an Emmy with Chris Carter and company during his term on The X-Files.

He has also been serving as a director and executive producer on The CW’s Supernatural, starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Eric Kripke, co-creator and executive producer of the series, issued the following statement about Manner’s passing:

“Everyone at Supernatural is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. He gave so much to Supernatural, and everything we do on the show, now and forever, is in memory of him.”

Indeed, Manners’ contributions will be missed.
