Two new stills and a set report
Meaty stuff from the New York Times who recently sent Charles McGrath to the set of John Hillcoat’s The Road, the post-apocalyptic tale of a father and son trying to survive a new, terrifying landscape.
In addition to two new stills (one is seen above), McGrath reports back from the production with some interesting details. Here’s Hillcoat talking about the source material penned by Cormac McCarthy and the director’s approach: “What’s moving and shocking about McCarthy’s book is that it’s so believable,” Mr. Hillcoat said. “So what we wanted is a kind of heightened realism, as opposed to the ‘Mad Max’ thing, which is all about high concept and spectacle. We’re trying to avoid the clichés of apocalypse and make this more like a natural disaster.”
