EXCL: Paramount, Platinum Team for Butcherhouse

Michael Hidalgo’s haunted house script

Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes are tapping into the haunted house sub-genre in The Butcherhouse Chronicles. Shock has learned the two producing entities are taking meetings with directors to tackle Michael Hidalgo’s script.

Here’s a synopsis we received from one insider: Four teenagers explore a supposedly haunted house and uncover their small town’s horrible secret. After a little digging, we discovered Hidalgo’s “Butcherhouse” began as a play which bowed at Arielle Tepper’s 3rd Annual Summer Play Festival in New York City. Paramount subsequently snapped up the rights to the story in 2006 and asked to Hidalgo to adapt the material for the screen.

This is a welcome change of pace for Dunes (veering into original properties). The company recently announced it was partnering with Paramount for a remake of Rosemary’s Baby (details).
