Based on the novel by Scott Smith
Casting has officially begun on Dreamworks’ adaptation of Scott Smith’s 2006 creep-out novel The Ruins. The first to endure Smith’s wicked and astonishingly effective tale is Jonathan Tucker, known to most fright fans for his turn in 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Later, he starred in Tobe Hooper’s “Dance of the Dead” in “Masters of Horror.”
In The Ruins, Tucker will be playing “Jeff” who is the story’s book-smart “boy scout” – the one who leads his pals, enjoying a stay in Mexico, into the jungle in search of an archeological dig. There they find themselves isolated and surrounded by an evil lurking all around them. Director Carter Smith is bringing “Ruins” to the screen for Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films. Shooting begins in Australia next month.
