King adaptation on a roll again
One “master of horror” has taken the backseat to the film adaptation of Stephen King’s From a Buick 8 and a new one is slowly creeping behind the wheel. “Tobe Hooper is in negotiations now to direct it. We had George Romero which was neat, but it didn’t work out with him,” actor-screenwriter Johnathan Schaech tells Shock when we pay a visit to the set of Screen Gems’ Prom Night remake (arriving February 1, 2008).
The actor drops this scoop while talking about his writing experiences with collaborator Richard Chizmar of publishing banner Cemetery Dance. The two hashed out an impressive enough screen adaptation of “Buick 8” that producer Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) had the duo pen a take on King and Straub’s “The Black House,” a sequel to the “The Talisman.” That project is currently in a holding pattern while TNT preps its long-awaited “Talisman” mini-series.
From a Buick 8, however, appears to be on the move a bit faster. King’s 2003 tale of a Buick Roadmaster, the bizarre things that come out of its trunk and the police officers who have it in their custody is being produced through Schaech and Chizmar’s Chesapeake Films.
