According to The Hollywood Reporter, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Legend of Tarzan) — blazing hot before the expected-to-be-huge Suicide Squad debut — has signed on with Universal Pictures to both produce and star in the thriller Bad Monkeys.
Based on the 2008 novel by Matt Ruff, the story centers around a woman arrested for murder named Jane Charlotte (Robbie), who claims to be innocent and part of a crime-fighting force called the Department for the Final Disposition of Irredeemable Persons, aka Bad Monkeys. Once she has been remanded to s psychiatric wing, the plot becomes fueled by whether or not Jane is telling the truth.
Robbie will produce Bad Monkeys via her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, with Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber (Central Intelligence) and Dylan Clark (War of the Planet of the Apes) also producing.
Warner Bros. is so confident Robbie’s Harley Quinn will be a breakout character this summer they’re already developing a solo spin-off film for the star. She has finished a role in the hit man thriller Terminal opposite Simon Pegg, and has also signed to co-star with Domhnall Gleeson in Simon Curtis’ Goodbye Christopher Robin.
