James McAvoy in Talks for M. Night Shyamalan’s Next Film

James McAvoy will star in Shyamalan’s next thriller

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that X-Men: Days of Future Past star James McAvoy is set to lead M. Night Shyamalan’s next feature, an untitled thriller being produced by Jason Blum. THR notes that Joaquin Phoenix, who previously worked with Shyamalan on 2002’s Signs and 2004’s The Village, was up for the role but things never progressed past the discussion stage.

Shyamalan’s most recent film, The Visit, also produced by Blum, was made for just $5 million and to date has brought in over $67 million at the global box office. Previous reports on the upcoming feature, which is being tightly guarded, reveal that production is slated to begin in November in Shyamalan’s hometown of Philadelphia, the setting for most of his films.

McAvoy can next be seen in Fox’s Victor Frankenstein on November 25. He plays the title role in the horror film alongside Daniel Radcliffe. Following that he will cap off his stint as Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: Apocalypse with co-stars Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Munn, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Ben Hardy, and Lana Condor. The Bryan Singer-directed “Apocalypse” will be released May 27, 2016.
