Mission: Impossible 5 hits theaters on July 31 and yet Paramount hasn’t offered up a trailer for the fifth installment in the popular franchise, which will see Tom Cruise back again as Ethan Hunt. In an article suggesting production troubles, The Hollywood Reporter suggested production had been shut down so Christopher McQuarrie and a mysteriously unnamed (and reportedly unpaid) writer could rework the film’s ending.
THR’s sources differ in their take on the situation, one suggesting the group is “scrambling” to get things finished while another says, “Chris, Tom [Cruise] and a third person wanted to take a minute to get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place.” This last quote is what McQuarrie clearly endorses as The Playlist quotes a tweet from McQuarrie that has since been deleted in which he wrote “filming never wrapped [and] we took a short break to prep the finale properly.”
McQuarrie then took a jab at THR’s reporting with the following two tweets.

Of course, McQuarrie probably is scrambling a little bit to finish considering Paramount bumped M:I 5 from a December release up to late July. Taking five months off the post-production schedule if you’re still filming the finale five months away from release is a bit tricksy.
So, when will we see a trailer? No word on that yet, but I would think Chappie on March 6 would be just as good a time as any to offer up a first teaser or even Focus this weekend if they have something ready.
I’m personally quite excited for the new film and hoping for the best, and really hoping the release date shift doesn’t muck things up.
