Disney has announced the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean is officially titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and many of the previously rumored names joining Johnny Depp, who’s back as Captain Jack Sparrow, are now officially confirmed. This includes Javier Bardem playing the film’s villain, Captain Salazar, as well as Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner) and Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent).
Also announced was Golshifteh Farahani (Exodus: Gods and Kings) and the return of Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum.
Kon-Tiki helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are directing the film with production underway in Queensland, Australia for a July 7, 2017 release.
Here’s the official plot:
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
I have to ask, any excitement over this? The last one did little to nothing for me and to see Bardem taking on the villain role doesn’t do anything for me. I guess it could be fun, but with how long it has taken for this to come together makes me wish it never had. And you just know they’ll go for one more so they have two trilogies to sell along with massive DVD and Blu-ray box sets.
