Watch: ‘Love Actually’ Honest Trailer

There are a number of films I am always surprised people actually find enjoyable. They usually fall into the schmaltz category and have me scratching my head, thinking “You people are buying this crap?” One such piece of emotional schlock is 2003’s Love Actually, which is the latest victim to get the “Honest Trailer” treatment. You can watch the video below.

This idea that a romance is romantic simply by people being attractive and making grand gestures to one another gets deep under my skin. For instance, the famous cue card scene in the film, you know the one that is the cinematic equivalent of a pen down the throat over a toilet, should not be looked at with blushed cheeks, a smile, and dust in your eyes. That should be seen as a crazy person about to upend his best friend’s life. That is not a situation destined to end with rainbows and puppies.

Then there is all the terrible gender politics of it all, the absurd amount of clichés, and how this “comedy” is actually not funny, which the Honest Trailer gets into. However, I could deal with the film if it was around 90-100 minutes, but the film is 135 minutes of phony, borderline sociopathic, romantic bullshit, and for that, I truly loathe Love Actually.

The Honest Trailer only scrapes the surface of my problems with this movie, but it is a fun introduction to them. Again, you can watch the trailer below.
