Twenty years later and Dumb and Dumber To is already showing signs of a solid opening weekend as it brought in $1.6 million last night and with early Friday forecasts suggesting something in the $13-16 million range (source) we may be looking at upwards of a $40 million opening to match the film’s budget. This is would put the film’s opening at $10+ million higher than yesterday’s predictions with the readers going slightly lower than Laremy, with the reader prediction average coming in at $27.1 million.
Depending on how high Dumb 2 can go and what the hold on both Big Hero 6 and Interstellar ends up being it could be an interesting weekend. I still think it’s safe to assume Big Hero 6 will take the #1 spot for a second weekend in a row, but the second weekend drop for Interstellar is something I’ll be watching closely. Both the readers and Laremy predict something around a 45% drop. At this point both films are looking at something like a 40% drop, if not a little less.
