I am always interested in a project Rooney Mara signs up for. I may not always love the movies she is in, but she always makes for an really engaging performance. Even when given minimal screen time in something, like last year’s Her. She can say so much with so little. Today it was announced she’s just signed on for a new film, shooting in the UK next summer, entitled Blackbird.
Along with Mara is another actor I’ve always found interesting to watch, even if he is usually quite over the top. That being Ben Mendelsohn (Starred Up, Killing Them Softly), who has found his niche playing either sleaze balls or nut jobs. I would be interested to see these two in the same film regardless of what it was about. They have such unique energies that could either mesh really well together or totally repel one another. Blackbird will certainly be one I will keep an eye out for.
You can read the synopsis for the film below:
In Blackbird, adapted by David Harrower from his Olivier Award winning play of the same title, two people who once had a passionate affair meet again fifteen years later. Ray is confronted with his past when Una arrives unannounced at his office, and they are forced to revisit their relationship. Ray has made a new life for himself. Una is looking for answers. What follows in this emotional thriller is an unflinching excavation of damaged love. The consequences are shattering.
