Yesterday we ran Interstellar director Christopher Nolan saying, “A real movie wouldn’t do that,” when the Warner Bros. allegedly asked Man of Steel director Zack Snyder if he would add a Marvel-esque, post-credit comedy coda to the film. The article is a little unclear on this fact, but the quote is actually a third party quote in which Snyder says Nolan said that, it isn’t a direct quote from Nolan himself. Today some clarification has surgaced.
Over at Buzzfeed Nolan was asked about the quote directly and said, “I would never say someone else’s film isn’t ‘a real film.’ The quote is inaccurate.” Added to that, The Guardian now has a footnote next to the quote that reads: Subsequent to publication, Nolan disputed the quote attributed to him by Snyder. According to Nolan, he had told Snyder, “We shouldn’t be chasing other movies, but stay true to the tone of Man of Steel.“
From what I understand the quote attributed to Nolan caught the ire of fans around the Internet message boards. I wonder how they’ll react now after hearing Nolan denies ever saying it.
