Christian Bale just cannot make up his mind about playing Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in the upcoming biopic directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin. He is interested. He passes. He signs up. He drops out, which is the most recent news. If you are not already familiar with Bale’s history with the project, let me catch you up.
Director David Fincher was originally set to re-team with his The Social Network screenwriter for the film on the grounds Bale would agree to play Jobs. Bale declined, and Fincher left the project amid other reasoning as well.
Then, Danny Boyle came on board, and I guess he thought Fincher was on to something with Bale. This time, Bale agreed to play the part after Leonardo DiCaprio declared he wasn’t interested. Next, Seth Rogen The Hollwood Reporter reports Bale has now exited the film.
Personally, I really want to see Bale take on this part. I think it could be an excellent fit for him. Though this news is a bummer, Bale’s history with this project does not make me think this is one-hundred percent done. Just ninety-five. I hope the actor they end up casting can make the material work, and if Bale second guesses himself again and ends up signing on, even better.
