I know cynicism and snark is pretty much everything many of us have come to loathe about Internet writing, but with news of a Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and what seems like a mandate to feign excitement for the fifth film in a mega-blockbuster franchise it’s hard to be anything but cynical… or at the very least entirely disinterested.
Such is the case today as Deadline reports Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), George Mackay (Pride), Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent, Transformers: Age of Extinction), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent), and Sam Keeley (In the Heart of the Sea) are under consideration to play Henry, the young lead the fifth film in the Pirates franchise to be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg.
What more is there to know? Nothing really other than the fact Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow and last we heard Javier Bardem was considering playing the film’s villain, a ghost captain who blames Jack Sparrow for the death of his brother and is searching for a supernatural object to aid him.
The official title may or may not be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales with a July 7, 2017 release date planned.
