If The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the “defining chapter” in the Hobbit trilogy as this new poster suggests, what does that make The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug? And is this to suggest each of these time-wasting monoliths are only a single chapter? I would be more likely to call it the “final volume” over chapter, but then again I couldn’t really care less about this movie so I’m probably not the right person to make the decision.
The final chapter in the Hobbit trilogy hits theaters on December 17 and rumor has it the film will feature a battle between not two, not three and not even four, but five armies! Yes, five. I can only assume there will be swords and monsters galore and perhaps a little magic. I also am willing to bet all the good guys die and the Lord of the Rings trilogy is just a mythic fable of untruths told throughout all of Middle Earth to make sure young Hobbitses eat all their dinner or the great eye of Sauron will get them, but I could be wrong on that last bit.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.
Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice.
