Ben Affleck in Negotiations to be ‘The Accountant’… Who’s Also an Assassin

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Accountancy this past spring and am back in school until next May getting my Master’s degree in the subject, and if there’s one thing I’ve noticed in the world of film about my future profession it’s that it isn’t strongly represented. There are only a few memorable movie accountants, and the majority are portrayed as boring or bumbling, never bad-ass, but it looks like Batman himself has come along to bring a little justice to the situation.

Ben Affleck is in talks to star in an upcoming action thriller over at Warner Bros. called The Accountant, which centers on a man who is a mild-mannered accountant by day, deadly assassin by night.

Affleck is a busy man as of late, starring in David Fincher’s Gone Girl, which hits theaters this Friday, as well as playing a well-known masked vigilante in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He’ll also no doubt be involved in whatever future Batman or Justice League films Warner has up its sleeve

He’s also got his next directorial outing slated to begin shooting next summer in Live By Night, an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane (The Drop, Gone Baby Gone) novel, that’s been sitting on my nightstand begging to be read once I get through with school, with many having spoken highly of it (Brad included) so I’m excited to finally get around to it.

As for The Accountant, no director has officially been chosen for the project, but Variety reports along with the Affleck news that Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) is the studio’s first choice. The script was written by Bill Dubuque, whose only other screenplay credit is the upcoming family drama The Judge.

My only real suggestion to Warner at this early stage would be to reconsider the film’s title. As everyone seems to think accountants are boring, it may throw people off just a little bit. I can just see it now: “Hey, did you see the awesome new trailer for that movie The Accountant?”

Yeah, I’m just not so sure about that one guys.
